This Institute was the first Government College to start in 1962 under the Ministry of food. It started in abandoned barracks behind present employment exchange building.
IHM Pusa has several kitchens, bakeries, a training restaurant, housekeeping and front office labs and classes for teaching theory and practical subjects at various levels.
There is a library with more than 5000 books and reading materials. Other facilities include an auditorium and a conference rooms.
The institute has not adopted any Anthem on formal basis.
Though on the ground level a traditionaly popular song called as Pusa Call is sung after every un-official ceremony amongst the pusaites(Term given to students of IHM Pusa). Pusa Call is believed to be nothing less than 20 years. Due to the use of its indecent vocabulary, Pusa call has been banned by the institute's management
